Broken hearts - Jesus Army Life

Broken hearts - I don't think I'm just talking about the love broken variety, though I guess they are the more popularly known type. Can hearts get broken over a long photo bt Sister72 of flickr.comperiod of time, with small repeated breaks until they are entirely bent out of shape? Or is it just a sudden experience? Hope and joy and everything you built your life on suddenly being snatched away? I don't know, but I'm realising that it can be a significant and devastating part of the human experience.

How do you help someone rebuild their life when they can't find the juice to start again? I know people who have obviously been broken in their lives because something has happened to them through no fault of their own. They pick up their life and rebuild it, they keep a positive outlook, but you can see that something is missing, or at least you can once you've known the experience yourself.

So how do you fix a broken heart?

Open heart surgery?
Hope on a drip feed?
Life transplant?
Faith transfusion?
Joy cream for the itchy bits?
Love pills? (prescription only of course)
Or Amnesia anaesthetic? (which can strangely be bought over the counter)

I think yes to all three at times.Hearts can be broken over time and they can be snapped in a moment.
The best cure has got to be hope as what are any of the others you mention without hope? Without hope what do any of us have?

  2. I agree. But how do you give someone hope when they have lost hope?

It's true at times do seem hopeless and we can gut wrenchingly lose all hope. At times like that we need to find/or help our friends to find a new focus, a new perspective and a new hope in life. It's not easy to do that, in fact it can be very hard. Sometimes it seems impossible, sometimes people can't seem to find the new focus they need as life has destroyed them so much. All you can do then is keep encouraging them and hope that your hope for them will be enough to help them until they are able to catch sight of a glimmer of hope once again for themselves

  5. the bro comment makes what you said sound rather ominous... but what you suggest happens anyway. thanks for the comment. i'm interested in the wisdom that people have as, while not exactly looking for help, i find myself blindsided by the enormity of the situation

Just so as you know, the first two anons are me but the 'bro' one isn't.

I can understand that you feel blindsided at the enormity of the situation. How on earth can we give hope to those that feel all is hopeless? I think just being there as a friend and loving our friends through whatever they are going through does help though. The fact that they have that one person in their corner when the chips are down can and does help! It might not always be enough but we can only do what we can.

  7. Thanks. Once again I agree. I have many friends who have lost family or family members. I feel a little thinly spread, but a moment of love and attention can work wonders for a crying soul. It doesn't always help people get over the obstacles they face, sometimes it is just a moment's comfort. I guess we all need to find the fight within ourselves and friends can only support us along the way.

I so wish the solution was easier.

As with a lot of things there is no easy solution. But the support of a friend along the way can go a long way to helping others to find the fight within themselves, even if it's just a moment of love and attention when possible.

I think there is a danger in spreading yourself to thin but guess that's a whole new topic

  9. I have been heartbroken and very hopeless. I did a lot (though I was too broken to express it or really feel very helped by it) to just have people around who knew I was going through a lot and who cared. I think the biggest thing though was that the people around me were praying a lot. It wasn't anything they did that snapped me out of it, but God answered their prayers by speaking clearly to me Himself.

It was very slow mending for me (though I hear stories of hearts that God healed instantly) so be ready to be patient. Don't let Satan trick you into thinking that you have to fix whatever's going on or mand any hearts - that's God's job. If you try to do God's part you will only get sucked into hopelessness yourself.

  10. The only way i know to fix a broken heart is by your faith and there hope for some thing better in the future, faith ,hope and glory of the divine majesty of our lord Jesus.
